07.03 Minority Rights: Honors
What Do I Submit?
If you are not taking this course for Honors credit, you do not need to complete this assessment.
The fight for civil rights for marginalized groups is not an issue unique to the United States. Oppressed groups in all corners of the world have sought and fought for their own civil and human rights. In this honors assessment, you will research one of these efforts and compare it to American social movements, creating a presentation from what you discover.
Choose a social issue or movement to research outside of the United States. You may select from the following:
Women’s rights in Afghanistan
Internet access in China
Untouchables in India
Children’s rights in Africa
Describe the issue, including key people and organizations active in addressing the cause.
What methods and strategies are these groups, or advocates for them, using to gain civil rights?
In what ways is this effort similar to American social movements? In what ways is it different?
Based on what you know of civil rights movements and the actions these groups are taking, do you believe they will be successful, why or why not?
Create a presentation in your choice of format that includes all of the above information. Options include a photo story, podcast, PowerPoint, video, or editorial.
