2.Pick a common family challenge and describe in 6-8 sentences the exact words you would use to normalize the challenge to the family.
b) Using scaling, create a scaling question to check with a client on a topic of your choice. Then, give a brief (3-5 sentences) about why your scaling question is effective.
c: Respond to 1 peer’s post by assessing the strengths. What did they describe well? What would course content can you add to expand the conversation? How would you give feedback to enhance their use of normalizing and their scaling tool? (This student respond is listed below that you will respond to)
student response:A common family challenge I can describe to say in my exact words to normalize the challenge in the family would be financial crisis. In general, families sometimes hit a spot where they may struggle a bit due to finances and to help these individuals realize its a common phenomena for the average citizen, they will have a feeling of relief to at least find resources to assist. What I would say, “Facing financial crises is a common and natural part of life. Just like other challenges we encounter, these situations are opportunities for growth and resilience. It’s important to remember that facing financial difficulties doesn’t define your worth or the strength of your family bonds. In fact, many families emerge from such crises even stronger than before. You’re not alone in this, and seeking help and support is a sign of wisdom, not weakness.”
Now, for a scaling question to check with a client on the topic of stress management:
“On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being ‘I’m overwhelmed and struggling to cope’ and 10 being ‘I feel completely in control and calm,’ how would you rate your current level of stress?”
This scaling question is effective because it provides a clear and quantifiable measure of the client’s stress level. It allows for easy tracking of progress over time, helping both the client and the therapist assess the effectiveness of stress management strategies and interventions. Additionally, it encourages self-reflection and self-awareness, which are essential for addressing and managing stress effectively
