Some challenges involved when combining methodologies when creating a research proposal and carrying out a research project include the complexity of merging both quantitative and qualitative data as they are different and require different methods of obtaining data. Determining how to balance the two research methods requires careful planning and research. You must determine the variation type based on timing, emphasis, and data mixing (Tappen, 2015). Timing is based on collecting both types of data at the same time or one at a time, will there be emphasis on one set of data over the other or will both portions be equal, and data mixing to keep data separate and link the data or compare the results (Tappen, 2015). It may be difficult to find ways to integrate the quantitative and qualitative data based on different results. It is important to find ways to have the data complement each other or interpret them to have a unified conclusion.
