part one
Discussion Board 3: race and ethnicity and Native American/American Indian discussion
Assignment goal
-To articulate your viewpoints after learning new information or reviewing old information about our course materials.
-To discuss some current events and also events that may resonate with your experiences!
Discussion purpose:
The purpose of this discussion is to take what you learn about Ethnic Studies and describe what meaning/significance it has for you. This will also help to process the affective (emotional) and cognitive (mind) and put it into conversation with the rest of us. Here we create a space where we start from where we are at in our learning and initial exposure to the subject.
Step-by-step prompt directions:
Please watch the race vs. ethnicity video, read through the sports mascot webpage, and reply to the following on discussion board #3:
- For the race vs. ethnicity video: tell us 1 or 2 things that resonated/stood out (or that “spoke to you”, that impacted you in some way, that surprised you, that you learned, that you knew already but “spoke to you” differently, etc) in the video.
- Use direct quotations and cite them. THEN explain why you chose those quotations (why they resonated with you).
- To cite: After the quotation put (author, year, page). For the Introduction to Ethnic Studies readings, there is no page number so you just put (Fischer, 2023). The History of Ethnic Studies reading has a different author.
- For the sports mascots webpage, tell us 2 things that resonated/stood out (or that “spoke to you”, that impacted you in some way, that surprised you, that you learned, that you knew already but “spoke to you” differently, etc) from the Yale Insights sports mascots page. Do the same thing in directions numbers 2 and 3 highlighted above about quotations and citations.
- Respond to someone else’s post on the discussion board.
