In this assignment, you will provide an in-depth description of the three Delivery methods discussed in class, as well as a comparison and analysis of the different methods (when they are used and why).
Memo Structure
Your technical memo should be structured into three main sections: Introduction, Description of Alternatives, and Discussion and Recommendations. Each section has specific requirements outlined below.
- Introduction
- Briefly introduce the topic of project delivery methods in civil engineering.
- Provide context for the importance of selecting an appropriate project delivery method.
- State the objective of the memo, which is to analyze different delivery methods and recommend the most suitable one for a specific project scenario.
- Description of Alternatives
- Delivery Methods: Describe each project delivery method (e.g., Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, Construction Manager at Risk, etc.).
- Contractual Arrangements: Explain the sequence of contractual arrangements between the owner, design professional, and constructor for each method.
- Advantages and Disadvantages: Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each method over the others. Consider factors such as cost, time, risk, flexibility, and quality.
- Trends: Describe current trends in the use of each delivery method. Indicate whether their use has increased or decreased and whether this trend is expected to continue in the future.
- Discussion and Recommendations
- Evaluation: Evaluate the findings from the previous section.
- Recommendation: Recommend the project delivery method you would use based on your research.
- Justification: Provide a clear explanation for your recommendation. Highlight why this method is the most suitable given the context, considering the advantages, disadvantages, and trends discussed.
- Sources: Cite all sources used in your analysis to support your recommendation.
Guidelines and Grading
