Comparing Sacred Roles in Christianity and Islam

Consider the video What is Religion that we watched in Week 1 from the YouTube channel Lets Talk Religion:

In the video, the host says that while Christianity and Islam share common features of a religion a founder and a holy text the roles that Jesus and the Gospels/Christian Bible play in Christianity are very different to the roles that Muh?ammad and the Quran play in Islam.

What are the roles of Muh?ammad and the Quran in Islam? How would you describe them can you draw any parallels to other dynamics, whether religious or secular?

If you are familiar with Christianity, what do you think the videos host meant that Jesus is comparable to the Quran itself, and Muh?ammad may be likened to the Virgin mary?

On that note, what role do Jesus and Mary play in Islam and the Quran? You may consider the following Quranic passages: 19:16-37; 5:110; 5:17; 3:59; 4:171
