SCN600- School Counseling Practicum

Benchmark – Applied Counseling Techniques Reflection

Mezirow (1990) stated that reflection is a critical aspect of the learning process. To reflect on ones actions, experiences, and progress provides the individual a platform for continued growth.

In 750-1,000 words, reflect on a counseling encounter or observation with a student in your practicum experience where you or your clinical site supervisor applied one or more of the counseling theories or group counseling techniques. Remember to maintain confidentiality of the student who participated. (Client-centered therapy)

Include the following:

  • Identify the counseling theories or group counseling techniques that were used.
  • How did you or your clinical site supervisor demonstrate personal or social counseling techniques and other school counseling skills in a school setting while collaborating with students, families, staff, or administration?
  • Were the school counseling techniques effective? If not, what techniques do you believe may have worked better?
  • What was the outcome of the encounter with the student?
  • How would you evaluate your performance or your clinical site supervisors performance in this school counseling setting?

While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines
