ASSIGNMENT 2: Mass Medias Assessment of the State of America

In the past few years, the United States of America could be described as a country in an escalating perilous state.

PART I: You are once again assigned the task of consulting the popular print and broadcast media, to submit a typed, minimum (at least) two (2) page paper discussing the current state of the United States of America. In your discussion, refer to current issues and reports regarding such concerns as, public health, governmental, political, social, economic, ethical and regulatory (public policy) issues in our country today.

In gathering information for your submission, watch at least one news program televised on any of the popular networks (i.e. CNN, MSNBC, FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc.). Read at least one news article from a reputable journal, magazine or newspaper. Reference these mediums in your discussion. Be sure to document your sources and give credit to experts/contributors quoted in your submission. (Please note: APA style is the preferred format for this course).

PART II: Define democracy. Compare/contrast the idea of a democracy to two other forms of government. In your comparison define the other two forms of government. In your opinion, (and based on the analysis of the popular media) what is the current state of democracy in the United States of America? Was democracy in America threatened recently? If so, when, how, where? Site your sources! (- 2 pages)

PART III: Define sedition, insurrection, conspiracy, pro-life, pro-choice, redacted, affidavit. How/why are these phenomena significant/applicable in the current discussions regarding the status of American Government? (Based on recent and current news reports) Site your sources! (Minimum – 2 pages)
