One way for a marine enthusiast to participate in ocean conservation is as a cit

One way for a marine enthusiast to participate in ocean conservation is as a citizen scientist. Citizen science engages individuals or teams of volunteers, many of whom have no special scientific training, in research-related tasks. This allows scientists to accomplish research objectives more easily and also promotes public engagement with science research.
To learn more about “Citizen Science” read the description and/or watch the video posted here: https://scistarter.org/citizen-scienceLinks to an external site.
For this discussion, we will consider how some of the threats to marine ecosystems could be addressed through citizen science projects.
To earn full credit on this discussion thread:
Begin by visiting the SciStarter website: https://scistarter.org/citizen-scienceLinks to an external site.
From the “by Topic” drop-down menu, select “Ocean, Water, Marine & Terrestrial.”
Filter the results by location (in the location box on the left, list the state or town you are currently in).
Approximately how many projects are available in your state, related to marine ecosystems ?Choose two of these projects and provide a brief description. For each project, name the specific ocean ecosystem that is targeted and identify which threat to marine ecosystems is addressed. Briefly describe how a volunteer could participate.
(before completing this section, review the discussion thread and try to avoid projects that have already been described. the longer you wait to submit, the more challenging this will be)
After reviewing the projects of your choosing, share your general thoughts on citizen science projects using some of the prompts below:How are the data produced by citizen science utilized?
What are some of the advantages and disadvantages to utilizing citizen scientists to collect data related to environmental issues?
Would you participate in a citizen science project? If so, what type? Do you think the citizen science model is valid and effective? Why or why not?
How might the citizen science model be useful as a way to influence public understanding of environmental issues and shape environmental policy?
Do you have other ideas for where a citizen science model could be useful?
