Last week we looked at government as the traditional locus of the public adminis

Last week we looked at government as the traditional locus of the public administration field. This week we will explore the more current view that it’s not about government alone anymore. in doing so we will cover a number of concepts that you will come across again later and throughout your graduate studies.
1. Come up with more examples of public, private and toll goods. Are there private goods that government provides?
2. So, let’s take a look at what NASA has been up to with our tax dollars since the early years of the new millennium, just before the launch of the Artemis back to the moon mission:
a. Video Link…
b. This was an unusually hard-hitting piece for PBS science coverage, but who is at fault and what’s wrong here. Can you interpret this using concepts you learned about this week?
3. Governance processes are “ hybrid and multi-jurisdictional with plural stakeholders working together in networks. It describes recent changes in the world” (p.5). I presume that you are all still aware of the recent changes due to the Covid pandemic. Was the pandemic response a classic task for government or was it more of a governance challenge, involving markets and networks too? Discuss who was all involved at several levels and various stages of the pandemic response and mitigation.
