EXAM WEEK
SECOND EXAMINATION
Weekly Summaries, MARKETING, and ME assignments Starting with Week 2 and every week thereafter up to week 15 (except weeks 8 & 9), there is a 3-part document to be submitted each week.
The document consists of – a Summary (worth 5 points) and the ME and MARKETING assignments (worth 5 points each), for a total of 15 points for the document. The purpose of these is to help you identify key points in the week’s material, to draw conclusions from the material presented, and to recognize how they could be used by an organization in sales (the MARKETING assignment) as well as to you as a consumer — “What those conclusions could mean to me as a customer.” (the ME assignment).
Four steps for preparing these weekly assignments are: 1. Write a statement that draws together the key points and provides one or more conclusions for the material. The point is to capture the meaning in a summary paragraph (more than 3 sentences and more than 50 words; printed, not hand-written). Example: “Putting off goals for immediate gratification is labelled as procrastination. Proper motivators such as deadlines and penalties can help people be more willing to meet deadlines or long-term goals. Based on experience with students, deadlines set by authority figures such as teachers and supervisors cause people to start working on tasks earlier. If we set the deadlines ourselves, we might not perform well. Moreover, we will not start making any progress towards the completion of the task until the deadline approaches.”
2. Simplify the amount of information in step #1 by reducing the number of words to focus on what you really want to convey. Complete sentences can be reduced to a few words to answer the question: What is the main point or theme? Example: “Deadlines set by authority figures are more powerful than selfset ones.”
3. Now put the information into 2 statements — one for an organization (MARKETING) and one for you as a consumer/buyer NOT AS A SELLER (ME). Example: MARKETING – “Organizations should publicize strong deadlines for sales.” ME – “I should pay close attention to deadlines set by ASU and my teachers.”
4. Print your Steps 1 through 3 and submit as a single document at the beginning of each class meeting (no more than a single page).
So, what you turn in should look like the following:
Document x Submitted by _________ Date xx/xx/2018
