Art Gallery Response
Visit a gallery or museum and experience art. Ideally you would attend the opening reception for an exhibition at a gallery or museum. Locally you can attend exhibition at the Utah Museum of Fine Art or Utah Museum of Contemporary Art as well as many galleries. Many exhibition openings will take place during the Salt Lake Gallery Stroll which is held on the third Friday of every month all over the city. Stay for a minimum of 30 minutes and talk with one of the artists whose work is in the exhibition. Bring your sketchbook or similar to the opening to take notes for writing the paper. Submit a written single page, thoughtful response and analysis paper (details below). For the response and analysis paper:
Take the first paragraph to describe what you saw in the exhibition as a whole.
Take the second paragraph to talk about the work(s) you found most interesting and why. (Be specific in your explanations and examples. Write in terms of the elements and principles of design.) If you had the opportunity to talk with the artist(s), include what you learned from your conversation(s).
Take the third and last paragraph to reflect on your experience at the gallery and opening reception.
If it is allowed please take a few pictures of your favorite work and include this at the end. Submit your Microsoft Word document on Canvas by the due date above.
