Assignment Overview: In this multi-step rhetorical analysis assignment, you will work in groups of 3-4 to explore a specific topic from various perspectives. Your goal is to summarize the scope of the topic, identify different points of view presented in various articles, and identify at least three topic experts. This assignment will help you develop critical thinking skills and an understanding of how different rhetorical strategies are employed to convey ideas.
Step 1: Topic Selection
Form groups of 3-4 students.
Choose a broad topic that is relevant and of interest to your group. For example, you might select topics like climate change, social media’s impact on society, healthcare reform, or artificial intelligence. See lists below if you are stuck on topics,
Create a google doc to record notes.
Each group member should contribute at least one article from a reputable source that addresses the chosen topic. Share these articles within your group and confirm your topic selection.
Choose one student to gather article links together into a single document – copy and paste the content of the articles into that document as well.
Step 2: Article Review
Each group member should thoroughly read the article they selected.
In a group discussion, identify and summarize the main points and arguments presented in each article. Have a note taker write down any rhetorical strategies used, such as ethos, logos, and pathos. Working together, highlight opinions in RED, facts in YELLOW, and expert names in GREEN.
