Basically a compare and contrast essay analyzing two artworks from different period, artistically and culturally, and arguing a strong thesis that you make with the analysis evidence.
**Please read the “Term Paper Guide.docx” first for an overview of this paper, and also review rest of the documents for a better idea.
Topic is free to choose, as long as it meets the requirements for the two artworks.
As the doc says, one artwork must be within the time period of Module 8 (Byzantine) to 14 (Early Italian Renaissance), and the other artwork could be within this time or date all the way back to the Aegean times. To be more specific, they are:
Module 8: Byzantine Art
Module 9: Early Medieval and Islamic Art
Module 10: Romanesque Art and Architecture
Module 11: Gothic Art and Architecture
Module 12: Late Gothic Art in Italy
Module 13: 15th Century Art of the North
Module 14: Early Italian Renaissance
The other artwork could be within this time period or dated back all the way to the Aegean times, except the Parthenon, but two artworks must not be in the same time period.
Or to make it easier, you are welcome to pick one of the suggested topics that are safe to choose in the “Term Paper Guide.docx”.
3 academic sources are required, and at least one is a book.
Please follow the guide “Architectural Analysis”, “Cultural Significance Analysis”, and “Stylistic Analysis Content” pdfs for the analysis part.
The rubric is:
Thesis & Thematic Analysis 35%
Stylistic Analysis 25%
Cultural Analysis 25%

So make sure to have a strong thesis/statement and focus on artistic analysis and cultural analysis, which are the most important for this paper.
