A fairly large number of people believe that animals have language abilities and use language. Most scientific data on the point, however, indicate that animals communicate, but do not use a complicated system of symbols and syntax to convey ideas. After reading the articles and relevant textbook chapters (you are encouraged to use other sources and include them as part of your APA documentation), incorporate what you have learned about language to answer and discuss the following
questions/statements:
Is there a difference between language and communication? Elaborate……
Do you believe that animals use language?
Why or why not? What research is there to back up your belief?
If you believe that animals use language – what specific species?
Why do you think humans have such well-developed language abilities? What evidence is there to back this up?
