Describe, utilize and document Unit Specific Safety Standards with patient care.
Identify how patients are assessed and documented for potential high risk for safety problems/injury and how this is communicated to the staff.
Understands the correct use of Safety enhancing technologies such as barcodes, computer data and order entry, medication scanners and pumps, automatic alarms & alerts, tele-sitters and patient monitors.
Discuss and utilize various strategies to Organize and complete nursing care to reduce reliance on memory.( How Leader track to follow up different than staff nurse?)
Utilize required safety measures and Safety Standards of Care specific to the unit to provide safe care each day.
Understands how various Cultures with patients and families to experience providing care for patients from various ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Describes the benefits and limitations of safety enhancing technologies such as barcodes, computer provided order entry, medication scanners and pumps, and automatic alerts/alarms and telesitters.
Correlates medications applicable to Patient diagnosis and verifies with the patient “are these the medications you have been taking?” to prevent errors.
Utilize safety practices such as checklists, peer and preceptor monitoring and “read backs” to prevent errors.

How the Nurse leader Educates staff Utilize SBAR format to provide Nurse to Nurse end of shift report on patients each week and when communicating patient status changes or requesting changes in orders to meet patient needs.
Encourages nurses to Provide Patient Education and Discharge planning and document.
Communicates care needed and provided at each transition of care utilizing the SBAR format and participates in the nurses role in Admitting, Transferring and Discharging patients from the unit or calling Physicians.
Understands the process of checking Dr. orders with the Preceptor to note changes in the Plan of Care.
Utilize Interventions to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
Discuss any ethical issues involved in care and understand nursing resources/people available to assist in decisions of care.
