This assignment should be 2-3 typed single space pages in length, with 1 inch margins for each page, and everything below the memo header is typed in Times New Roman 12 point font. Write in paragraph form, using bullets very sparingly, if at all.Use headers to separate sections as and when you deem appropriate.
Financial analysis is a required element of all case memos. As long as there are financials given in a case assigned for a case memo, then a grade of either “D” or “F” will be assigned to any case memo that does not contain financial analysis in the analysis section.
Begin your memo with your problem statement, in the first paragraph. Then do your strategic analysis; structure your strategic analysis so that different pieces of analysis each have their own conclusions given in them, and are “coherent” on a paragraph-by-paragraph basis. Thus, for example, you could present your financial analysis in one paragraph, along with conclusions you drew from doing it, an analysis of the firm’s vision / mission in another paragraph, and so on.
Always finish up your strategic analysis section with a summary of analytical conclusions, to make it very clear to your reader what you see as the most important conclusions that you drew out of your strategic analysis.
Next, describe and develop at least two reasonable alternatives that you believe the leaders of the organization in question should carefully consider, and weight their pros and cons. Finally, provide your recommendations and support them with evidence from your earlier analysis, and from the case.
You can attach as many appendices as you like, although none are required.Examples of what might go in an appendix include a more complete presentation of financial analysis, a more thorough five forces analysis, or further details that support some other kind of analysis.
Key Writing Tips:
Be professional and direct in your writing, just as you would be after graduation.Leave adequate time to edit so that there are no English errors in your memo.
If you are having difficulty keeping to the required page limit, consider moving parts of your analysis that are of marginal importance to an appendix, as doing that will free up space for other material in the main text of your assignment.
Change the parts of the memo header that need to be changed (… clarify “To”, “From”, “Date”, “Subject”).
Please do not change the “To: …” part of this header to “To: C-Suite Member.” Instead, put in the name of somebody actually in the case you are writing about, somebody to whom you might actually write a memo, if you really were providing advice.
Use the memo header given in the “Template” file that is being made available in the folder directly below these assignment instructions. Please do not alter the formatting of the header to try to alter how much space you have available to write; it leads to fairness problems when many students adhere to the given page limit for the assignment, and one or more students use formatting changes to get around having the same frame within which to present their ideas as everybody els
