Assignment 2: Intervention Treatment Plan
According to the Council on Social Work Education, Competency 4: Engage In Practice-informed Research and Research-informed Practice:
Social workers understand quantitative and qualitative research methods and their respective roles in advancing a science of social work and in evaluating their practice. Social workers know the principles of logic, scientific inquiry, and culturally informed and ethical approaches to building knowledge. Social workers understand that evidence that informs practice derives from multi-disciplinary sources and multiple ways of knowing. They also understand the processes for translating research findings into effective practice.
Walden’s MSW program expects students in their specialization year to be able to:
Critically evaluate evidence based and “best practice” treatment interventions.
Compose clinical intervention plans that are grounded research-based knowledge
This assignment is intended to help students demonstrate the behavioral components of this competency in their field education.
To Prepare: Review the agency’s intervention/treatment plan used to engage clients. After reviewing the agency’s intervention/treatment plan, consult the literature and conduct extensive research, with the goal of finding best practices that supports or adds to the agency’s current intervention/treatment plan. The purpose of this assignment is to find research that supports or adds to the agency’s current intervention/treatment approach.

Assignment: Safety and Agency Responsibility
When you walk into a human services organization, do you think about your safety? What about when you prepare to make a home visit or attend a meeting in the community? As a social worker, you may find yourself in situations in which your personal safety is at risk. Although you, as an administrator, cannot prepare for every situation, you should be proactive and put a plan into place to address issues related to workplace violence in the event that it occurs.
For this Assignment, focus on the Zelnick et al. article on workplace violence and consider what plan you might want to have in place if you were an administrator having to address a similar workplace violence situation.
Assignment (2–3 pages in APA format):
Draft a plan for a human services organization explaining how to address traumatic emergency situations. Include both how to respond to the emergency and how to address any long-term effects. Finally, based on this weeks resources and your personal experiences, explain your greatest concern about the safety of mental health professionals working in a human services organization.
Research has found that the number of couples who meet online has soared. More more people now meet online than through family, church, or even college. How might this trend impact common factors in mate selection such as propinquity, homogamy, or exogamy? Have you ever dated someone you met online? Did you meet through a dating site/app or through a different kind of site/app (such as through social media or gaming)? If you have not ever met someone to date online, would you be open to this possibility? Why or why not?
Find an article in the New York Times in which you can apply one or more of the specific theories or concepts we have been studying. Please link your article to the chapters for which you are submitting. you have full access to the NYTimes.com archive; to access this service, you should create an account by going to https://myaccount.nytimes.com/verification/edupass.
After finding and reviewing your article, post a brief summary of how, where, and why you can apply leadership concepts and theories we’ve studied in class. Be specific. For example, if you choose to connect behavioral theories to your article, be specific about which behavioral theories you’re connecting. The deeper the integration between the article and specific leadership theories, the better your grade will be.
This assignment is where theory meets practice. The better you can integrate the theories into real-world events, the more deeply you are learning the material. It is this real- life application that will cause you to remember what you are currently learning.
Your initial post should be a minimum of 500 words. You must also select an article from the current year; the article can be from any category of news EXCEPT opinion, and must connect to content in unit one of the course. Remember to include a link to the article you are discussing.
Many individuals have been to a corner market in a city and noticed soggy lettuce, a moldy cucumber or other far from fresh produce being offered to that community in that specific area. Until now, many may not have known that this is what is referred to as a Food Desert.
Why is it that we do not see similar grocery stores in these areas as we do in more rural communities?
As a result, what does this do to the health and well-being of the thousands of people living in that community?
Discuss Food Deserts in this Discussion Thread focusing on why they exist in the first place and how we can improve the situation for generations to come.
For this Assignment, research the agency you are working with for your field education experience. Examine the characteristics of your agency in reference to the field of social work and the types of services offered to clients.
The Assignment (8–10 PowerPoint slides, voiceover optional):
Create an Agency PowerPoint Presentation that includes the following:
Define the characteristics of the population(s) served by your agency.
Describe the sources of funding for your agency.
Explain the agency’s mission statement and compare it to your agency learning agreement.

In this lesson, you will think about violence as a social problem. But what about violence as the solution to a social problem? Consider, for example, that the very successful gay rights movement started with multiple nights of street battles between police and clubgoers in New York City in 1969. How do you think social problems should be solved? Do you think violence is ever acceptable, or are non-violent means the only legitimate ones? Why?
Race & Ethnicity: the case of Miami
One of the most sociologically significant aspects of Miami is its diversity. Whereas the Anglo/”white” population of the US is considered the dominant group culturally and in terms of political power, do you believe that Miami is any different from the rest of the country in this regard? Which group(s), if any, do you think are dominant here in terms of culture, power and economics?
Do you believe that people in South Florida have different sorts of experiences regarding how they are treated due to race or ethnicity in ways that might not be the case in other parts of the US? If so, does Miami offer any lessons from which the rest of the US might learn? Do you think that Miami is “post-racial” in the sense that there is a mixing together here that makes race and ethnicity matter less than in other parts of the US, and along those lines?
