Descriiptive Analysis of an Artwork
Purpose:
The Art Elements and Principles of Design help us identify what an artwork consists of and why
it is successful. They also give us the necessary vocabulary to analyze a work of art. Just as you
did for Module 1, notice the art that you encounter as you go about your day. Find an artwork
that you did not include in the assignment for Module 1 and give a descriiptive analysis using
the terminology of the Art Elements and the Principles of Design.
Instructions :
Write a short essay about your chosen artwork:
● Write a clear introduction about your essay’s aims and explain where your artwork was
located, the type of artwork it is (painting, sculpture, etc.), the medium, general size,
and any other information you know about it such as the artist, the date, and the title.
● In the body of your essay, give a descriiptive analysis of the artwork using the
terminology of the Art Elements and the Principles of Design as outlined in the textbook,
Living with Art. Be sure to include citations. Examine the Art Elements that the artist
used and consider how the artist employed the Principles of Design to make a successful
work of art.
● Sum up your essay in a concluding paragraph. Feel free to provide your own assessment
of how accomplished the artwork actually is.
● Include a photo of the artwork embedded in your document.
Note:
Your paper should be academically formatted using APA 7th edition.
