Levels of Measurement Lab

The focus of this weeks SPSS lab is to apply the concepts of levels of measurement to a data set in SPSS. You will use an Excel file that you will open in SPSS and then decide, based on the information you see from the variables, what levels of measurement match each variable.

  • Activity : Download the lab data
    • Open the data file in SPSS according to the video instructions (above) about opening an Excel file in SPSS
    • Follow the video instructions for labeling variable categories under the Values column in SPSS
    • Use the Data View, Variable View, and Frequencies command to understand the variables in this dataset
    • After you get acquainted with the variables in this dataset, change the Measure indicator for each variable to reflect the level of measurement you think is appropriate for each variable
    • Run frequency distributions for each variable, copy the SPSS output into a Word document, and make sure to CLEARLY indicate which level of measurement you think each variable is and why in the Word document.
  • **Note: Make sure to put your work into 1 single Word document that you will submit for this assignment. Include your answers to the questions AND the SPSS output in the Word document that you submit.
