Choose a child to observe and determine if the child is exhibiting behaviors expected from Piaget’s Stages of Development.
Directions:
A. Choose a child to observe and determine which Stage of Development he/she should be in.
B. Prior to observing, describe what behaviors (according to Piaget) you might expect to see if the child is developing at a typical rate.
C. Observe the child for 1 hour, taking notes (for this observation, you may need to interact with the child at times).
Submission:
- At the top of your paper, share the following information:
- Date and time the observation occurred
- The first name of child only
- Age
- Stage of Development
- Your first paragraph(s) should contain behaviors you expect the child to display, citing sources as needed.
- The second part of the paper should include your observations (in narrative form, not bullet point) and how the behaviors met or didn’t meet Piaget’s expectations. The following are some questions you can reflect on and address in your submission:
Reflect on what you observed versus what Piaget expected.
- Did the child participate in the expected behaviors?
- Did the child excel in any area?
- Which behaviors were not observed?
- Were there any factors that help the child excel or not excel?
4. Grammar, spelling and punctuation will be factored in as part of the grade for this assignment.
