Essay #4: Causal/Speculative Analysis Essay Prompt
The Causal/Speculative Analysis Essay is an essay which evaluates the causes (or reasons) for an effect (usually a problem or situation). We have gone over examples of this in class, such as what causes the bad driving/bad road conditions in Louisiana or what makes children not engage in appropriate classroom behavior. For this essay, you will speculate on the potential causes of whatever issue you choose to write about. While I am encouraging you to connect this to the idea of community, I am not requiring it.
This essay must be a minimum of 1000 words, or roughly 4 pages. You may go over that word limit within reason, but you may not submit anything under 1000 words. Also, your heading and Work Cited page do not apply towards your final word count. You will also be required to use information and direct quotes from at least one source, though I would suggest including more than one. We will go over in text citations in class, but you may also use OWL Purdue (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/1/) or the Appendix of your textbook.
As always, you are not allowed to use contractions for this essay. You are also not allowed to use 1st or 2nd person for this essay.
