Final Examination:  Essay Questions

Instruction:      The instructor will assess an appropriate “credit”which will be on the basis of “correctness” and “thoroughness” of the answer in regard to the questions.  In other words, the student will not receive any points if the statements (answer) do not reflect the content of the questions.  The correct answer is determined on basis of the whole statements of each question, which reflects the content of each of the questions.  Any deficiency in meeting the requirements, as specified in the following, will result in 25-50 percent of grade deduction on basis of severity of writing deficiencies of the final exam.

(1)        Each student must read the whole chapters of the textbook, as specified.
(2)        The assignment must be typed and single-spaced.
(3)        The length requirement of each question is: at least one page per      question.
(4)        Each student must provide two (2) references for each question to justify   his/her response to the subject matter(s) in the question.  One reference is          the textbook and the other must be an adequate academic source (e.g.,         journal or governmental publications).  Personal opinion won’t be        sufficient to meet with the grading requirements.  The student must use      adequate sources and its information to substantiate his/her respond to the      subject matter(s) in the question.  Citations shall be included in the end of        the exam.

Question #5:    Review Chapter 15–Contemporary Issues

Cybercrime and other types of electronic and white-collar crime are very complicated and technical.  Do you think the average small police department (or even metropolitan police department) will ever have personnel competent to investigate them?  If not, and if state and federal police become more and more focused on counterterrorism, who will investigate these types of crime in the future?
(Explain in detail!)

Question #6:    Review Chapter 15 – Contemporary Issues

To some extents, the USA Patriot Act is a controversial law.  What liberties and freedoms do you think Americans should be willing to give up in order to prevent major terrorist acts?  What additional powers do you think police need to be successful at counterterrorism?
