WST 378: Paper 1 on “Girl Rising”
Global Feminist Theory
For the first paper you will return to “Girl Rising.” The film is linked on Bb so I suggest you watch it again (and perhaps more than once).
You will chose two girls’ stories to compare and contrast. From course readings, class discussions and lecture notes, choose 1-3 (at least 1, max 3) concepts that you think are central to transnational feminist theory/Third World feminist theory and use these concepts to help you analyze the stories you’ve chosen. TF/TWF become the analytical lens through which you see and analyze the film by focusing in on 2 stories. You must use (engage the ideas of, directly quote from) course readings (and only course readings, no “outside” research) and you must give specific evidence (directly quote from) the film to make your argument. Note: you are making an argument, not simply summarizing the stories you’ve chosen or the film as a whole.
Your paper should be 5-7 DS typed pages (regular 12 pt font and 1 inch margins). You paper should be titled (“Paper 1” is not a title; “Girl Rising” is not YOUR title; your title should reflect your thesis). Please insert page numbers. No works cited needed as you are only using course texts. You may use the Girl Rising website if you want to, but nothing else outside of the website for the film. Only your name, date and title of your paper should appear at the top of the first page of the paper, single-spaced.
Paper 1 is due February 28 in hardcopy in class (blue or black ink) and through a Safe Assignment link on Bb. Late papers are not accepted without proper documentation. If you have something like a printer emergency, let me know.
