history

answer these three questions:
1. How can the history of the United States since 1865 help explain the election of Donald Trump? Are there any good precedents for the emergence of a political figure like Trump? What should we know about the history of issues like trade and immigration that helped propel Trump into the Oval Office, along with broader subjects like race, economic inequality, and political polarization? There are many possible answers to this question. Try to make a persuasive, logical, and clearly structured argument using the material we’ve studied in our course.
2. One of the most controversial issues in American politics today is immigration. What are the historical roots of that debate? Discuss the role of immigration in shaping American history from the late nineteenth century forward – including changes in the number of immigrants, their places of origin, and their reasons for coming to the United States; the history of controls on immigration, and major reforms to the immigration system; and ways in which immigration has changed American politics and life more generally.
Attached with this document is a brief review guide to Foner’s Give Me Liberty! It’s not a comprehensive list, and it won’t substitute for your notes or the textbook chapters themselves, but it will give you an idea of some of the main themes to keep in mind – both the genearl issues
3. The welfare state, and the federal government’s involvement in efforts to mitigate economic inequality, have undergone dramatic growth since the late nineteenth century.
What are some of the most notable government programs that have been created, or other examples of the expansion of the welfare state? And what about the other side of the coin – limitations on the U.S. welfare state that persist today, or periods of backlash against welfare and big government that led to attempts (whether successful or unsuccessful) to shrink the government and reduce its role in the economy?
