●The purpose of this “Chicano Artistic Expressions report” is for the students to do academic research related to Chicano artistic expression topics covered in this class (that must include at least three (3) of the following Student Learning Outcomes – SLO’s
1.Recognize Chicano/a artistic identity symbols
2.Distinguish the historical characteristics of Chicano aesthetics
3.Recognize the evolving nature of Chicano/a social/artistic reactions and their revisions
4.Identify particular cultural elements that shape, define, and inform the Chicano/a aesthetic experience
5.Analyze and evaluate the social, political, and economic forces that constrain and shape the structure of Chicano/an artistic expression.
6.Analyze and evaluate the constructs of gender, race/ethnicity, and social class within the community.
Research references must include: books (hard copies), periodicals/journals, maximum three internet sources.
●Students must write a summary/closing statement that relates to and clearly identifies one (1) of the CLAS Department objectives:
-To promote an awareness of the historical and cultural roots of the Chicanos/Latinos in the United States.
-To cultivate an appreciation of ethnic and national differences among all people.
-To critically analyze the Chicano and the Latin American experience in terms of significant issues, theories, current problems and solutions.
-To provide students with a set of important skills to be utilized as they interact creatively and constructively with Chicano/Latino communities.
