(I choose transactional leadership style, use this style for a scenario writing to answer discussion board question.)
Pick a situation that involved an important decision that you had to make in your life.
Thoroughly describe your decision-making process.
Does it resemble any of the models we have covered here?
Now imagine that you had to make a similar decision today.
What would you do differently, if anything, and why?
In addition to your initial post, you must also reply to one other classmate. Reply responses should contain thoughtful responses to class colleagues that advance the discussion, present new ideas, or ask insightful questions.
As the new police leader or chief in Ferguson, Missouri, I will use the transactional leadership style because I will be sending teams to work in a structured environment. The line function team should work in several areas, including patrols, providing technology support, and giving planners and technology advisors insights to create organized emergency protocols. As the new police chief, I will use this leadership style because I need the team to complete certain objectives while following certain rules and regulations. Still, I will be directing self-motivated people to work in an organized, structured, and directed environment. They will not need to innovate or start certain procedures from scratch because the police department has already put in place working modalities. In other words, the team can work on new tasks but make sure they align or conform to the existing structure. Again, the team has formal authority and positions in the organization. My role is to only direct them or the team to assume new responsibilities.
Furthermore, most of the requirements are known or defined. For example, police know what they should do in a patrol or in emergency preparations. Police also understand that they should feed specialists with crucial intelligence. The only remaining leadership element is to appeal to the police or other teams to work on the objectives or tasks. Again, leaders have the daunting task of asking officers to follow the already provided instructions and structure to complete tasks correctly and on time. Most of the work has already been done. For example, police have already managed to maintain a peaceful or stable neighborhood. All they need to do is follow existing work structures to continue maintaining stability or order.
In conclusion, transactional leadership is the best leadership style for Ferguson, Missouri. Police officers understand they need to make a few changes to the working structures or processes. As the leader, I will track progress to ensure they understand the goal. They should implement new initiatives with the existing police structure.
