I need the peer response for the discussion.
Nursing research is critical as it encompasses several areas such as healthcare systems, clinical studies, and the expected outcomes. Nevertheless, nursing research is important as it helps nurses advance in the nursing field, have information literacy skills, and promote better healthcare services. In carrying out nursing research, one of the most common statistical tests used is the independent samples t-test, also known as the two-sample t-test or unpaired t-test. Independent samples t-test is applied to compare two independent groups to accentuate whether statistical evidence shows the two population groups are significantly different. Conversely, when carrying out nursing research, independent samples t-test is normally applied, particularly when you want the means to precisely compare two groups so that it is easier to determine whether two population means are different (Campbell, 2017).
Additionally, the independent samples t-test applies when comparing two distinct and independent population groups with a continuous dependent variable in nursing research. For the researcher to apply the test, the two population groups must be independent, containing different population participants; however, the test to use also, the dependent variable must be continuous (Campbell, 2017). When carrying out the research, the researcher will determine whether there is a significant difference between the score of depression in unemployed and employed nurses. The two population groups, both employed and unemployed nurses, form the independent groups, while the dependent variable will be the depression scores. Furthermore, the research will allude to whether there is a difference between the two groups of nurses, which can be represented as M=12.32, SD=11.6) and the unemployed nurses (M=18.42, SD=11.6) with a value of t (117) =4.61, p=0.08; thus the significant value otherwise known as a p-value of 0.008 indicates that there is a difference in the depression scores between unemployed and employed nurses and it is significant.
