This is time for a reflective moment and to review your first introductory speech from Week One.  Please evaluate your overall performance and list at least three things that stood out (positive or negative).  Share at least one thing you would like to improve in your next speech. Examine the weekly question or video, read the assigned chapters for the week and provide a response using a minimum of 250 words. You are encouraged to take a position on the issue and to support it with deductive reasoning, logic and reference to the readings/materials. Submit your response by the assigned due date. Your reading response should be well written, insightful and free from grammatical errors.
Reading: 3 (listening), 5 (topic and purpose), 6 (audience analysis), 18 (special occasions), and 19 (small group)

In this class, you have the opportunity to present a speech that people are likely to give throughout their lives and that is the Special Occasion speech. There are many incarnations and it can include a wedding toast, eulogy, dedication, retirement party, baby shower, dinner speech, graduation ceremony, etc.
The speech will be graded on the following:
Preparation–the speaker’s preparation followed the criteria below:
 A strong and clear self-introduction
 Appropriate event/venue
 Material was clear and well organized
 Clear transitions and signposts through the speech
 Strong closing and final comment
 Time limit (4-5 minutes)
 Overall goal of preparing an effective special occasion speech was achieved
