Network Fundamentals Paper
Kudler Fine Foods is upgrading the company’s information technology infrastructure in order for Kudler to remain competitive. The company presently has a bus topology that includes workstations, routers, servers, and other devices on the network.
Once the upgrade is complete, Kudler’s network will have VoIP, an IDS system, firewall, and more servers. The network design is based on safeguarding the information within the network along with high level production within the network as well. The upgraded network will feature a secure firewall to keep unauthorized users off of the network and from penetrating the network. Another feature of the upgrade will be an IDS or Intrusion Detection System to detect and address any malicious activity. Finally all workstations and servers will feature antivirus protection software to remove, or reduce malicious software and programs on the workstations.
The primary purpose of the upgrade is to ensure that Kudler Fine Foods remain viable and competitive focusing on reliability and security within the company. All of Kudler’s stores will include the same service and devices all on the same network. Each store will have a Cisco ASA 5505 X firewall, including an ACL to reject IP Ranges not recognized or specified by Kudler. The IDS will also run parallel with the system’s firewall to identify and block any attempted intrusions to the network. Each store will also have four HP servers, POS or Point of Sale Data and data/file, SQL, and web. The stores all will include a Cisco router and change to move traffic across the network. Finally, each workstation will include an HP desktop along with a VoIP phone from Cisco.
