INTEGRATIVE FINAL PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS The purpose of this final project is to integrate the information from your textbooks as well as presentations included in your course. There are 2 options for this project, and you will select 1 of the following to investigate:
1. Child and Family Risk Topic: For this option, you may select a movie character (lead character or supporting character) that exemplifies issues related to at-risk children and adolescents. A primary focus for this paper will be on the family system, including the individual who is the main focus of this paper. Abuse, neglect, parental substance use/abuse and high conflict divorce are several factors that create risk factors of stress, trauma and neurocognitive development for children and adolescents. The family is the primary source of influence on all children/adolescents and these influences, both positive and negative, have a profound impact on childhood and adolescent socio-emotional development. For this paper option, please choose a high risk issue that impacts the psychosocioemotional development of children and adolescents, within the context of the family system. When writing your paper please include the following sections: • Legal and ethical Issues related to at-risk children and their families • Individual Characteristics of children who are at risk • Family issues related to increased risk for children • How risk impacts academic outcomes • Prevention, intervention ,and treatment options for families to reduce risk for their children
2. Adolescent Risk Topic: Select a topic from the following categories to investigate: • School Dropout • Substance Use and Addiction • Teenage Pregnancy, STDs, and Risky Sexual Behavior • Juvenile Delinquency and Youth Violence • Youth Suicide This paper will require the following sections: • Legal and Ethical Issues (related to the chosen character for your case summary) • Individual Characteristics of High Risk Youth • Family Problems Related to At-risk Youth • School Issues That May Impact At-risk Youth • Prevention, Intervention and Treatment Options
The body of your paper is to be nor more than 12 pages, not including the title page, abstract, and reference pages. You will be required to use 10 peer-reviewed journal articles for your paper as well as materials from the course textbooks and presentations. You may also use the Holy Bible, in addition to the 10 required journal articles. Internet sources will not be accepted for this paper. Your peer-reviewed sources can be retrieved from the Liberty University Library via a search format (e.g. PsycArticle.
