Interaction with other people and places beyond the classroom walls is powerful

Interaction with other people and places beyond the classroom walls is powerful in education. Using technology in the classroom can give every student a level playing field within education. Using collaborative tools can help teachers and students communicate and interact with people they otherwise would not have been able to contact or learn from.
Create a short self-paced, virtual professional development informing teachers about different digital communication and collaboration tools and how they can be used to promote interconnectedness and social/global interactions in the classroom.
Choose a grade band (K-3, 4-8, or 9-12) to use as the audience of your virtual PD. Make sure to choose resources appropriate for the grade band teachers and students.
Research free online learning tools you can use to develop the virtual PD (e.g., EdPuzzle, GoFormative, or Loom).
Select a tool and develop the PD. You must create at least one interactive component, such as, a game or quiz.
Create a minimum of two take-home resources to support the content of the professional development. These can be printed materials or a website teachers can bookmark for future reference and support.
The self-paced, virtual professional development session should provide teachers the following information:
Explanation of the collaboration and communication skills needed for students to be productive, global digital citizens. Consider the skills for students and the teachers that support them.
Links to at least three age-appropriate student communication and collaboration tools that allow for appropriate student interactions.
Provide pros and cons for using these tools in the classroom. For each tool, describe how the approach to communication and collaboration promotes global awareness in students through appropriate interactions.
Provide examples of lessons or activities that are designed to encourage students’ collaboration and communication skills. Discuss how these follow research-based best practices for students.
Support your professional development with a minimum of three scholarly resources.
Submit a link to your virtual professional development and take-home resources as one document. Ensure your virtual PD is accessible by others and provide any needed directions to your instructor.
