Data literacy is the ability to read, understand, and communicate with data. As a technology coach and classroom teacher, you can use data to help make informed, data-driven instructional decisions.
You are the technology coach for your building, and a colleague has come to you with a lesson plan and a data set seeking advice for how to improve upon the lesson and ensure that the learning objectives are being met by students.
Attached are three lesson plans. Select the lesson plan for the content area and/or grade level with which you are most comfortable. Review the selected lesson plan, paying special attention to the desired learning objectives for the lesson. Review and analyze the “Assessment/Exit Ticket Data” section at the bottom of the lesson plan. In 500-750 words, summarize the following.
- Describe the content of the data set.
- Explain what the data is telling you about student outcomes.
- Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the data presented.
- Describe 2-3 modifications to and next steps for instruction that could be made to the lesson plan based upon what the data says about students’ achievement. Justify each modification by citing the data.
