Write an essay that expresses your opinion on a topic in an informed way (how America poorly educates people on drug education, Netherlands has a completely different system and it works better). This paper should include at least 8 sources I have attached 4 if you want to use them. One including the information on the Netherlands drug education. One cover page, one source page, 8 pages of the essay. The grading rubric is divided into parts including formatting, including sufficient specific examples/support, is organized logically (has an introduction and fully developed conclusion. Relationship of ideas, events, examples are clear), has a clear thesis and cohesive argument (has a point, makes a claim, makes and assertion, draws a conclusion), credible sources cited sufficiently and correctly (8 sources), mechanics (including title unique to essay content, correct grammar and punctuation), and references cited correctly.

D.A.R.E. is the Drug Abuse Resistance Education. It is a program for students Kindergarten through 12th grade. This source lays out a pro/con list of why D.A.R.E does or does not help prevent drug use in elementary, middle, and high school students. This source is very factual and uses many statistics to show data. The article uses US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to gather its data. The cons list in this source helps support my argument of the flaws in America’s drug education. The pros list helps form a counterclaim against my argument.

This article illustrates how the Dutch teach their youth about drugs and the effects that drugs can have on people. This source is useful because it directly compares the Dutch the United States to show the differences in how each country teaches its youth about drugs. The difference between culture and population of the United States and the Netherlands is something that should be accounted for when using the source. The article uses Open Society Global Drug Policy Program to gather its data. I will this information this article brings to show the flaws in the United States and their education of drugs.
Motel, S. (2014, April 02). America’s New Drug Policy Landscape. Retrieved February 11, 2018, from http://www.people-press.org/2014/04/02/americas-new-drug-policy-landscape/
This article’s main focus is on the rehabilitation of drug users, it suggests that nonviolent drug offenders should be treated rather than imprisoned. It says that two thirds of Americans prefer treatment over jail time. It also states the different views on drugs that Americans have. This article will be very useful for my essay because it helps portray a possible solution, that I agree with, of this problem that we are facing in America today. Charts and graphs are used in this article to show different ways of view the information they are providing.
Netherlands vs US. (n.d.). Retrieved April 02, 2018, from http://www.drugwarfacts.org/chapter/netherlands_us
This article shows a direct comparison between the United States and the Netherlands. My favorite thing about this article is that it adds an interesting perspective in the talk about drugs, which is the ties between drugs and mental health. This would be very useful in my article because mental health is an issue that I want to touch on when talking about drug education in either of these countries. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is where this article gathers its information from him.
