Directions:
For this assignment you will be applying The Cornell Note-Taking System to a lecture from a class that you are currently taking on campus or you can take notes on any news or educational program or documentary. TED talks work too. Please don’t use a television, cable, YouTube, or Netflix ,etc entertainment program or weekly sitcom or reality program. If using YouTube or Netflix it needs to be for an educational program. Make sure that it is a program with some educational value! View this for at least 30 minutes and follow the directions below. Submit your notes for the assignment. Be sure to indicate which program was used for this assignment. Indicate the name, date and time of the program used for the notes. Make sure you use 12 point font.
Please note that you must submit this assignment as a .doc, .docx, .pdf, .jpg or .png file. When you are ready to submit your assignment, click on the submit button and upload your assignment file.

Step 1- Preparation
Make sure you have a pencil or pen and a piece of paper.
Be clear of any distraction or interruptions.
Refer to the section in your OER on The Cornell Note-Taking System.
Review the following 2 examples of Cornell Notes taken from a class setting and one from a T.V. News Broadcast.

Step 2- Listen to the Lecture and Take Notes
Set up your piece of paper using The Cornell Note-Taking System and begin taking notes.
Here is a template you can use:
Step 3- Edit Notes
Immediately begin to edit your notes once the lecture is over.
Write questions in the left hand (Recall) column that go along with the notes on the right.
Begin to key words, pictures, symbols, etc. in your recall column.
At the bottom of the page, write a 3 to 7 sentence summary, in your own words, on what the notes are about.
NOTE: If you are having technical issues with the template feel free to create your own as long as it has all the necessary components or handwrite your notes and take a picture of it and attach the .jpg or .png image. Just be sure it is clear.
