In order for you to examine your own diet, it is first necessary to collect some data. This Diet Analysis Project requires you to track EVERYTHING that you eat for a consecutive 72-hour period. This includes all meals and snacks… plus the bowl of popcorn you eat while Netflixing, that random handful of M&Ms and anything else that you may absentmindedly consume.

  1. Distinguish between whole foods, processed foods, and ultra-processed foods.
  2. Explain what an enriched food, fortified food, and organic food is.
  3. Discuss five factors that influence what you eat.
  4. Explain the concept of kcalories.
  5. Instructions

    1. Create a MyFitnessPal Account
      • Create a free
      • Create your profile by clicing on “Start Today”. You should also download the MyFitnessPal app on your phone to help you track your food.
    2. Track All Foods and Beverages Consumed
      • Keep a consecutive 3-day log of your dietary intake. For the purposes of this assignment, do not include dietary supplements or log your exercise.
      • Track all of the food and beverages you consume by searching for them under Food. Be sure to choose approximate portion sizes for accuracy.
    3. Download Your Food Log
      • Download your food log by logging into your MyFitnessPal account through the website. Click Food. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on View Full Report (Printable). Save as a PDF or use the Snipping Tool to take a screenshot of your log for each day. If using the Snipping Tool, be sure to include your daily totals on the bottom of each snip.
    4. Upload Your Food Log:
      • Upload the 3-day food log into the drop box as a PDF or JPG.
