Research Paper:
The topic for your research paper is to be chosen from the list of topics below. If you prefer, please contact me to have a topic assigned to you; below is a the list of potential topics:
Port Security, Port Facility Operations, Maritime Transportation System, Piracy (piracy on the high seas), Transnational Organized Crime, Drug Smuggling, Human Trafficking, Illegal Immigration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the United States Coast Guard. Please have your topic choice approved by me before proceeding (submit topic choice by the end of week 2 through “My Campus Email”). Research paper due by end of week 6.

Abstract (250 words)
Literature Review – Critical analysis is the key here (review of your sources)
Methodology (This needs to more than a single sentence that states “I used qualitative methods”. Take the time to explore what type of qualitative method you used…. Content Analysis and Case Study are the two approaches that seem most likely for this course.
Analysis – What does your research tell you? What are your conclusions??
Conclusion – ensure you include what future research should cover that has not been explored.

TECHNICAL GUIDANCE:
Your paper should be at a minimum of 10-12 pages (the Title Page and Reference page will be additional pages).
Type in Times New Roman, 12 point and double space.
Students will follow the APA Style as the sole citation and reference style used in written work submitted as part of coursework.
Use scholarly or other relevant sources.
A minimum of 10 outside references are required.
Points will be deducted for the use of Wikipedia or encyclopedic type sources. It is highly advised to utilize: books, peer reviewed journals, articles, archived documents, etc.
Your responses are to be in your own words with minimal quotes.
Prepare you paper in a Microsoft word document and then attach and upload your word doc which will automatically submit your paper to Turnitin to check for plagiarism.
