POWERPOINT PRESENTATION PROJECT: FINAL PRESENTATION ASSIGNMENT
INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
Epidemiology is the study and analysis of the distribution, patterns, and determinants of health
and disease conditions in defined populations. It is a cornerstone of public health practices. The
ability to disseminate information and present it to both an audience of one’s peers and the
general public in a comprehensible and concise manner is a key element in a public health
professional’s skillset. Creating a presentation for appropriate audiences is the culminating step
in this process.
INSTRUCTIONS
Professional Audience Presentation
Create and develop 15–20 PowerPoint slides to support your outline and your instructor’s
feedback on your outline. This PowerPoint presentation should be suitable for a professional
meeting. Type a narration for each slide in the notes section under each PowerPoint slide. The
narration is what would be stated orally if you were presenting this at a professional meeting.
General/Lay Audience Presentation
Using those PowerPoint slides as a framework, create a separate presentation for a general/lay
audience. Consider your audience as you edit the slides and the slide narration.
Required Content for Slide Development:
 Problem Definition & Identification (History, etc.)
 Description of Agent (Organism, Incubation Period, Transmission, Life Cycles,
Vectors, Reservoirs, etc.)

Data on Morbidity/Mortality, etc.)
 Description of Host Characteristics (Data on Age, Gender, Race/Ethnicity, Family
History, Genetics, Mental Health, Marital Status, etc.)
 Description of Behavioral Characteristics (Data on Substance Use, Sexual Activity,
Exposure Protections, etc.)
 Description of Environmental Attributes (Data on Geographic Areas including Global

 Gaps in Knowledge on the Disease (New Treatments, Policies for Control, etc.)
 Suggestions for Further Research on the Disease to Advance Knowledge
Include a slide at the end of the presentation that lists all the sources used in the presentation (for
your final presentation, you should have between 10-15 referenced sources listed). All citations
or footnotes in the slides/notes section must be consistent with current AMA format. Submit
each presentation as separate files.
Here are some tips for a professional PowerPoint presentation.
 Choose a PowerPoint design, color scheme, font type, and bullet types.
 Organize the slides based on your headings and subheadings.
 Include a title slide (at the beginning) and a reference slide (at the end of the
presentation)
 Do not overload the slides with text and data.
 Use bullet points to organize your text.
 Keep the text abbreviated and concise.
 Strive for clarity.
 Choose a different layout for each slide.
 Use pictures, graphics, charts, and graphs to illustrate key points.
 Graphics should make a key concept clearer.
 Use at least 30-point font size consistently throughout.
 Final slides should emphasize key points or leave the audience with a question to
think about or answer.
