Pick any case study from the textbook between chapters 1 and 6 AND/OR pick any case study pulled from real life news.
Explain what the real world medical practice consequences are surrounding your selected cases for patients, medical workers, etc.
For each case study pick any two of major ethical theories (one or both must be from the textbook), and analyze what both theories would say is the most ethical action/decision in your case study situation.
Argue for the ethical theory you feel best addresses the situation and explain why. Explain where the competing theory falls short.
DEADLINE: April 6th 2018 by midnight.
 
* WORD COUNT – Minimum 900 words, Maximum 1400 words (Penalty for going under are more severe than going over). Following formatting rules below this should be 3.3 to 4 pages. Quotes word count total should be about 200-250 words.
 
* Normal Font, size 12, double spaced, MLA citations, NO TITLE PAGE, one inch margins, numbered pages, word count (do two of these, labeling one with quotes and one without quotes)
 
* 3 academic sources, 1 of which must be your textbook. (Use proper works cited page format)
 
* 3 quotes, 1 of which must be from your textbook. (Use proper in-text citations)
 
I expect this paper to look like a real academic paper, and that means proper margins, grammar, spelling. Separating your work into coherent paragraphs. Having an intro and conclusion.
 
Strength of sources will be a factor in your grade. Make sure your sources are reputable and relevant. So medical academic journal articles are better than tabloid newspaper articles, etc. Do not cite Wikipedia as your source, instead check wikipedia’s sources and perhaps use those.
 
You will be graded on three metrics: STYLE, UNDERSTANDING, and ARGUMENT.
 
Style accounts for 50% of your paper grade, Understanding 30%, and Argument 20%.
 
Style means grammar, spelling, the look of the paper, did you follow all the guidelines? Did you answer all the questions and provide all the information the prompt asks for?
 
Understanding means did you really understand the theory you discussed? Did you get it right? Did you explain it with enough detail?
 
Argument means was your analysis of the theory or situation evenhanded, comprehensive, and fair? Did you make a good argument? You will need to do more than just say “I feel, for me, in my personal opinion”, instead make an argument in such a way that all rational people should be obliged to accept it. A good proven path is to either argue for superior outcomes or for some duty-bound principle that tends to work generally.
