Part 1) In this week’s lab, you are going to find information on the Internet to answer the following question.

  • (w4L1) Which state in the US has the largest number of gay adoptions?
  • (w4L2) Explain how you found your answer. That is, describe which search engine(s) and what keywords you used to find your answer.
  • (w4L3) Provide bibliographic info for the webpage you found, which should include:
    • The author’s name (if available) or organization’s name,
    • the title of the webpage,
    • the date of retrieval [i.e., the date on which you found the info], and
    • the webpage address.

    (w4L4) Visit the following site: another tab or browser, copy and paste the address to get to the website.)and examine carefully the examples of ASA formatted web pages given there.Present the bibliographic info you listed above (w4L3) in the ASA format.

  • Read the introduction section carefully. What factors in restaurant tipping had other researchers studied by the time the authors of this paper conducted this study? List all the factors examined by other researchers.

  • What factor did the authors say that no other researchers had examined?

  • What particular research question did the authors study?

  • Where and when did they collect their data?

  • How many servers were there in this study?

  • How many cases did they observe?

  • For each case, what did they record as their data?

  • What is the unit of analysis in this study?

  • What answer did they find to their research question?

  • Is this an empirical research paper? Explain your answer.
