Objectives: The student will: 1.) discover how to locate volcanoes on a map, differentiate the common places of their location, evaluate how plate boundaries determine location of volcanoes on Earth. 2.) correlate how the silica content determines eruptive style of a volcano. 3.) describe the implementation of the Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) as a numeric scale that measures the relative explosivity of historic eruptions, and to predict the VEI of other volcanoes using their location, type of plate boundary, crust type, and silica content.
