PART 2
In this module we have identified many ways to improve our physical wellness. Specifically, we have talked about how sleep is an important factor for improving our everyday lives physically and mentally. We also reviewed cancer and diabetes this week in conjunction with our overview of cardiovascular disease during week two. After learning more about these topics, please discuss the following:
1. SLEEP
Tell us one helpful sleep habit you are confident in as well as at least one habit that is a barrier to good sleep for you.
After identifying the barriers keeping you from getting better sleep, explain how you will improve these habits. What are realistic steps you can see yourself taking in the near future to improve your quality and quantity of sleep?
2. CANCER & DIABETES
Risk factors are an important way to prevent disease. Knowing what makes us more at risk for chronic diseases can help us maximize our preventative efforts and improve our overall wellness. In this lecture, what risk factors did you identify for cancer and/or diabetes in yourself? These may be choices you are making, but they may also be characteristics out of your control (gender, race, age, etc.). It may help to take the ADA’s diabetes risk screening tool.
How can you improve your physical wellness by lowering your risk for chronic diseases? What are some realistic changes you can see yourself making in the near future to reduce your risk?
