The idea for this week’s discussion is to brainstorm about how you would design an environment that would best facilitate the perceptual and cognitive growth during a child’s first two years of life. What kind of color schemes, wall paper, decorations, toys and so forth might be best for the development of their capabilities? Think back to your childhood. What was your room like? What was your favorite toy? Most might not remember as far back as this assignment. But what about your younger siblings, cousins or your own children? And there’s lots of marketing to parents. Look at some of that. What looks like it might really benefit a child at that age?
PART 2- Discussion – Forming A Secure Attachment Relationship

Having read the lecture reading on emotions and attachment this is a quick and easy discussion. All I want you to do is bounce ideas off of each other as what a parent or caregiver could do to develop a strong healthy attachment relationship with an infant or small child. Cite examples from the course material to support your suggestions. But it’s also okay to draw from your own experiences based on observations of younger siblings, nieces and nephews, your own children or those of friends.
