People who have been around awhile have experienced a lot of technological change which has influenced their life and point of view. The purpose of this assignment is to connect with an older person and discover the human side of technological change from their perspective.
Interview a person who is in their 70’s or older. To be tactful, you might ask around if anybody knows someone in their 70’s or 80’s who would enjoy talking about this topic and would be willing to be interviewed.
This interview is to be completely voluntary with the senior, and is to be done with the highest level of respect. The interview can take place over several meetings or just one.
Below is a list of questions that are mere suggestions to start the conversation and keep it moving if required. The list below is not a checklist of questions that must be asked and answered. Keep your mind open.
IMPORTANT: Let your interview be a conversation that unfolds organically.
My intent is for you is to connect, on a human level, with a treasured resource: our seniors. My hope is that you gain insight into how technology has influenced culture, on an individual level, and that the insights you gain will stay with you your entire life.
This assignment is worth 60 points, and has two parts worth 30 points each.
You’ll do a written summary of your interview in which you identify your relationship with the person, and summarize what they had to say. Your summary will be no more than two pages, double spaced, 12 point font, and use Calibri font.
You will name the changes that they wanted to talk about, and reveal how the changes affected their personal life. You are to provide feedback to me in the form of a comment about this assignment as a personal experience.
I will assess your paper on the apparent thoughtfulness of your work, the clarity of your self expression, and grammatical correctness.
