This assignment is short for “quick and critical.” This means that you will not have to write heavily, but you will want to bring a critical, reflective perspective to what you write in your own post, and in the two posts you make in response to your classmates. This is both an independent and responsive assignment, meaning that your first post should be your own work/reflection, and your 2nd/3rd post should respond to the content of your peers in a thoughtful way.
While you may choose which week/topic you reflect on in your personal post (anything within the Making Sense of People & Place module on the syllabus).
These postings are aimed at hearing your further thoughts on course content and topics that we have discussed, but can also be considered a way to demonstrate that you have been attending class, taking notes, and reading all the material that has been asked of you. Please make sure you are responding to the prompt below thoroughly to do well on this assignment.
How do I complete my Quick-and-Crit?
1) Write a 300-word reflective post focused on any topic we have covered in this class during this module. (Please focus on some element within the main topics of language, religion, identity, population/mobility – it can be a topic we covered at length, or something smaller and more obscure.) Some questions you may explore in your post include (but are not limited to): Why did this topic capture your attention/interest, and why does it matter, in your view? What makes this topic geographical? Do you see connections between this topic and others we have covered in class? Did your opinion or knowledge about this subject change in some way? What further questions does this topic raise for you, now that you reflect further on it?

Race refers to the idea that one or more genetic traits can be used to identify distinctive and exclusive categories of people.
Racism refers to the intolerance of people perceived to be genetically inferior.
Race as a social Construction:
- The boundaries between ‘races’ are always arbitrary/subjective/ constructed by humans.
- There are transition zones in geography and biology.
- When people are divided into so-called races the amount of genetic.
Institutional Discrimination:
What is ethnicity?
It refers to people who share a collective identity that may derive from common ancestry, history, language, or religion.
-They have “in common spatial inclusion and exclusion”.
Gender Gap: A disparity men and woman in their opportunities, rights, benefits, or attitudes.
Public Space: A kind of common space intended to be open and accessible to anyone.
