Read the article below entitled “Media Politics:  A Citizen’s Guide” by Shanto Iyengar, which discusses the impact of technology, particularly the internet and social media, on modern politics.  He says people are divided into two groups on this topic, the “optimists” and the “skeptics.”  After reading his article, write a 3-page essay in which you answer this question:  have the effects of the internet on campaigns and elections been primarily positive or negative?  Are voters truly more informed than they used to be?  Is candidates’ use of social media increasing voter participation?  If so, is that a good thing – are voters who vote solely based on what they see on social media necessarily “informed” voters?
