Research Article Report Instructions
Students will be required to write 3 research article reports—due dates
are listed in the course calendar. 
Students will search for 3 research articles from one of the following
psychological journals:  Developmental
Psychology, Journal of Social and Experimental Psychology, or Abnormal
Psychology.  For each article, students
will report on the following information found in the articles:
1)   
Write the full APA citation
of the article
2)   
Introduction—
What are
the research goals and hypotheses being studied?
3)   
Participants—
Who was
involved—explain the demographics of the subjects in the experiment?
4)   
Methods—
What did
the participants do? Give examples of types of assessments used in the
experiment
5)   
Results—
Describe
the types of data collected
6)   
Discussion—
What happened?  Were the hypotheses correct or incorrect and
why?
7)   
List at least 2 strengths of
the research
8)   
List at least 2 weakness of
the research and
9)   
Suggest at least 2 ways the
research could be improved.

is, please check with me, your English teacher, or librarian for further

The
following is some information to help you interpret your research articles:
Heading: 
This consists of the title, name of the author(s) and their
institutional affiliations.  The title
provides a brief description of the primary independent and dependent variable
that have been investigated in the study.
Abstract: 
This section consists of a short preview of the contents of the
article.  It should convey a statement of
the problem explored, the methods used, the major results of the study, and the
conclusions reached.  The abstract helps
pinpoint the exact questions addressed in the study.
Introduction: 
This section provides the foundation for the study, itself.  It serves to provide a context for the study
by discussing the past literature that is relevant to and has implications for
the present research.  It permits a
thorough discussion of the rationale for the research that was conducted and a
full description of the independent and dependent variables that were employed.  It also allows for the hypotheses that were tested
to be stated explicitly and the arguments on which these predictions were based
to be discussed.
Method: 
This section describes the procedures that were employed in the
investigation.  The Method section
typically comprises two or more subsections, each of which has a specific
function to fulfill.  The Method section
usually begins with a subject subsection, consisting of a complete description
of the subjects who participated in the study. 
A procedures subsection is also usually included in the method section.
This subsection presents a detailed account of the subjects’ experiences in the
experiment and, a thorough description of all questionnaires administered or
tasks completed, as well as any other features that might be reasonably
expected to affect the behavior of the subjects in the study.
Results: 
This section reports the results of the statistical analyses that were
conducted on the data in a clear and concise way.  The author is obligated to present all the
significant results obtained in the statistical analysis, not just the results
that support the hypotheses being tested.
Discussion: 
This section evaluates and interprets the findings of the study,
particularly as they relate to the hypotheses that were proposed in the Introduction.  There is also an attempt to integrate the new
findings into the body of research that provided the background for the
study.  It provides the context within
which the data can be understood and interpreted.  The author may finish the article with a
brief section about the possible applications of the present work, implications
for future work in the area, and speculations about what lies ahead for the
line of research in the field of psychology. 
The article may end with a short conclusion which restates the major
arguments that have been made throughout the article reminding the reader of
the value of the work.
References: 
This section provides a list of research articles (and their contact
information) that were referred to in the present study to acknowledge the work
of other researchers and their findings and to avoid plagiarism of such work.
