Case 4: Should HPV Vaccine Be Required for School Entry?
Supplemental Information
Students should recognize the case study takes place in the winter of 2006 and that as of now,
the environment surrounding HPV vaccine has changed. These developments may alter some
of the conversation that takes place in the case study if the hearing were to be conducted in
present time. A list of recent state level legislation can be found here:
http://www.ncsl.org/research/health/hpv-vaccine-state-legislation-and-statutes.aspx
For more information on state policies on vaccine requirements and permitted exemptions, go
here

For more detail on HPV vaccines, go to the CDC website at
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm6411a3.htm
For more information on state policies on vaccine requirements and permitted exemptions, go

Please review these materials as you prepare your case responses.
Be sure to cite your sources (and you should have some) as you use them and include a complete
listing at the end of your submission. Use correct APA format.
● Is HPV a communicable disease? How is it transmitted?
● How important is it to the public’s health to prevent HPV infection? To the health of individuals? Is
this a public health issue? Why or why not?
● What are the most recent recommendations for HPV vaccine? What is the 9-valent HPV vaccine?
● Can the Federal government impose compulsory vaccination on individuals? Why or why not?
Can the state or local government impose a vaccine mandate on a population? Why or why not?
How does the school system play a role in the imposition of a mandate?
● Does administering the HPV vaccine to young girls encourage early sexual activity? What about
for boys? Be sure to cite evidence for this; do not use your own opinions.
Please use these links and external links that are appropriate to answer each question last time they
forgot to answer one the questions. Also there is a small reading which i have snapshot and made a pdf
of use that and all these sources plus what other resources you need to answer these question very
detailed and accurately.
Helpful Hints
1. Be sure to answer all parts of the question.Your response should be thorough, in complete sentences
and grammatically correct. Most questions require at least a paragraph and often two to ensure an
appropriate response. A paragraph is 4 to 6 solid sentences. Remember when you change thoughts, it is
a new paragraph.
2. Be sure to cite as you write (i.e. in text citations) — APA style, please. If you do not cite as you go, it is
plagiarism. Plagiarism is not tolerated in any GCH class and it will be considered an honor code violation.
Let’s avoid this, shall we?
3. Do NOT use “I think” or “I believe” unless you are directly asked to state what you think. The
findings we are discussing in class are based on the research, thus we are using the evidence
base. At that point, it is not a belief, it is a fact.
4. Do NOT wait until the last minute. Submissions at 1:30:01 PM are technically late. Please
keep this in mind.
5. Include your references in APA style at the end of your paper. This should be labeled References. Not
Works Cited. References. Don’t know how? Here’s help:
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ .
6. Use appropriate references. Websites are fine but use the CDC, not Huffington Post.
