Select a strong cultural influence in your life (it can be just one area of your life) and find an artifact that represents that influence. An artifact can be anything made by a human being that holds cultural or historical interest. For the purposes of this assignment, the artifact can literally be anything, such as a family heirloom, a photograph, a piece of music, a selection of electronic media, a piece of literature, a piece of clothing, jewelry, food, etc.
The written assignment should be a three paged paper following APA guidelines. When completing the paper, consider the following questions to guide your responses. You do not have to answer each question, but your paper should include content related to these questions.
How would you describe your cultural background as it relates to this artifact?
How does this part of your cultural background affect your values and beliefs, as well as the ways in which you view and interact with others?
By what means does the culture reinforce its rules for living? How does it communicate those rules to others?
How does this cultural influence affect your critical thinking and decision-making abilities?
How is said culture represented in society? How do you feel about that representation?
What would you change about that representation if you could?
Your paper should be grounded in both personal experience and support for your experiences and assertions via examples as appropriate.
In addition to the paper, you will post a discussion board sharing your cultural object and a summary of your paper. You are welcome to share any piece of your paper that you feel comfortable. The discussion board post should adhere to the criteria for other discussion board posts.
