Throughout the course’s weekly writing assignments, Learners have been asked to develop specific knowledge pertaining to information systems and/or big data. The final research paper allows Learners to comprehensively and cohesively present an organizational strategy and leadership style that will influence others in an organization to adopt a new information system or big data project. Previous writing assignments analyzed and evaluated ethical issues surrounding big data and information systems, the business motives for utilizing and optimizing information systems and/or big data, as well as conducting a cost-benefit analysis for a new information system and/or big data project. The final research paper will instruct Learners to put all the previous pieces and parts together into a cohesive new technology strategy for an organization. The final research paper must incorporate topics and knowledge gained in previous courses (i.e. organizational strategy and leadership style) into a strategic plan.
Your final research paper (organizational strategic plan) should introduce what (information system/big data) project is being adopted, why it needs to be adopted (business motives), and recap the cost-benefit analysis previously conducted. It should then detail what organizational strategy will be utilized to encourage adoption and how a leadership style will facilitate that adoption. Your paper should also include a success metric or benchmark for first-year utilization rates (How will you deem adoption a success?). Remember, this is a strategic plan. Plans should always include goals, tactics, and measurement metrics.
It is logical to use an organization at which you are employed as the primary basis for your research paper (if you are not employed, please see me). Keep in mind that the purpose of this paper is to learn more about technology by applying the concepts to a “live” environment. Toward that end, try to write your paper as if you were submitting it to your immediate superior at work (and, where appropriate, please do so).
Although I am not looking for a specific number of pages, a “reasonable” length is probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 to 12 double-spaced, printed pages in a business-style report format. All outside sources should be cited appropriately in an Appendix or References page at the end of your paper. Traditional APA style may be used or other appropriate citing mechanisms such as footnotes or superscripts.
